Barcelona Science Park takes part in the 12th Iberian Meeting of Science and Technology Parks

The Association of Science and Technology Parks of Spain (Asociación de Parques Científicos y Tecnológicos de España, APTE) and the Association of Science and Technology Parks of Portugal (TECPARQUES) hosted the 12th Iberian Meeting of Science and Technology Parks on 7-8 May in Malaga. The meeting was organised by the Technology Park of Andalusia and the University of Malaga. These events have been held for 16 years and this year brought together members of science parks in both the Portuguese and Spanish associations.

Since 2002 APTE and TECPARQUES have been promoting collaboration between their Spanish and Portuguese member parks in order to drive cooperation between the companies and organisations based in them. This year the meeting’s purpose was to showcase scientific and business excellence with examples of cooperation between universities, business incubators, companies and science and technology parks in Spain and Portugal.

During the day of presentations on the 8th, Barcelona Science Park CEO Ignasi Belda joined the block on “Scientific and Business Excellence in Parks and Universities in the Iberian Alliance” in which parks and universities from both Spain and Portugal took part. The PCB presented its wide range of scientific and technical services in life sciences intended for the benefit of society as a whole.

The meeting’s programme is designed to bring together culture and innovation while improving cooperation in the Iberian peninsula. This year it has welcomed 50 representatives from science and technology parks, universities and business incubators in Spain and Portugal, and has clearly shown the complementary roles that parks and universities play in promoting innovation through cooperation. It has also confirmed these organisations’ essential role in knowledge transfer and socioeconomic development throughout the region.
