IRB Barcelona takes part in a new grant programme aimed at recruiting young talented scientists

The social programme of "la Caixa" announced today in Madrid a new programme aimed at recruiting the best young talents in biomedicine from all over the world to work at the four major biomedical research centers in Spain, including IRB Barcelona. The new initiative was presented by the Minister of Health and Consumer Affairs, Bernat Soria; the president of "la Caixa" and "la Caixa" Foundation, Isidre Fainé; the director of the Institute for Research in Biomedicine (IRB Barcelona), Joan Guinovart; the director of the Centre for Genomic Regulation (CRG), Miguel Beato; the director of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), Carlos Martínez, also responsible for the National Center for Biotechnology (CNB), and the director of the Spanish National Cancer Research Centre (CNIO), Mariano Barbacid. Josep F. de Conrado, general director of "la Caixa" Foundation, and Rosa Maria Molins, director of the Grants and Social Studies' area of the social programme of "La Caixa", also attended the event.

The project tackles two of the most reiterated concerns from the scientific community: the need to foster research in Spain supported by private entities and the benefit of bringing international talents to join research groups currently developing scientific programmes in our country.

The new grant programme of “la Caixa” to do a PhD in biomedicine at IRB Barcelona will award 40 grants during the next four years, with a total investment of 4.9 million Euros by the financial organization. All grants will secure funding for a period of four years to selected applicants and are open to students and researchers from all over the world.
