The major development of biomedical imaging techniques in recent years and their potential for transfer has brought together today more than 100 representatives from the industry and research groups at the Barcelona Science Park (PCB) under the Seventh Forum CIBER-BBN - Business. The conference was jointly organized by CIBER of Bioengineering, Biomaterials and Nanomedicine (CIBER-BBN) - affiliated to the Instituto de Salud Carlos III, and the Spanish Federation of Healthcare Technology Companies (FENIN), through the Spanish Innovation Platform of Health Technology.

The forum was inaugurated by Jesus Purroy, scientific director of the Barcelona Science Park; Angel Lanuza, coordinator of the Spanish Innovation Platform in Health Technology, and Pablo Laguna, scientific director of the CIBER-BBN. During his speech, Jesus Purroy has emphasized that “the collaboration of the research world, represented by CIBER-BBN, with the business world, represented by FENIN, is one of the best initiatives to ensure maximum use of talent and resources for the benefit of society. The mission of the Barcelona Science Park is to facilitate these collaborations take place frequently and with fruitful outcomes. ”

In the opinion of Angel Lanuza: “Meeting points like this one promote a real approach and represent an effective three-directional transfer between all stakeholders that are part of the health system. It is important to get to know each other more and better in order to foster our industry.”

During the event, 17 participating companies, and CIBER-BBN groups briefly presented their research lines, interests and possibilities of collaboration in biomedical imaging, and then carried out bilateral meetings between companies and groups to further the mutual interests identified. “Many groups in the consortium have extensive experience in the field of medical imaging and are now offering many opportunities for collaboration with companies in different areas of research,” said Pablo Laguna, representative of CIBER-BBN.

The CIBER-BBN has been holding meetings with the industrial sector since 2010, with very positive results: a licensed patent; 8 collaborations between CIBER-BBN groups and companies, and 18 contacts of possible collaboration between the groups and companies.
