5th Summer School on Medicines: Learning all the phases of drug development

Five Summer School on Medicines (SSM5) will be held from 7 through 12 july at the Paul Sabatier University in Toulouse (France). The event is coordinated by the Barcelona Science Park (PCB), Biocat, the University of Mont-real, Biopolis Quebec, Oncopôle, the InnaBioSanté Foundation and the Paul Sabatier University. Jordi Quintana, director of Business Development and Innovation at the PCB and head of the Drug Discovery Platform (PDD-PCB) is, as in past editions, a member of the Organising Scientific Committee. Registration will close on 22 June.


The Summer School on Medicines is part of the Transbio Sudoe project– which involves the participation of 32 organisations from south-western Europe, including Biocat, PCB, the UAB Research Park and CataloniaBIO. Year after year, it has been consolidating as a benchmark program for training on life sciences as it adds value and covers the training needs of professionals in the biopharmaceutical sector. This year marks its 5th anniversary and over 80 participants from 10 countries have already participated.

This is one of the most innovative and results-oriented programs offered internationally because it covers the entire value chain in drug development, from initial conception to market. It is made possible thanks to the experience of leading research centers, management and business knowledge of the pharmaceutical industry and the vision of government administrations.

The SSM5 program is interdisciplinary is interdisciplinary and is addressed to students in the field of life sciences (graduates, masters, doctoral and postdoctoral), biopharmaceutical industry professionals and regulatory agencies, researchers and science journalists. It offers a 40-hour training based on expert presentations, assessment of successful cases and seminars, visits to companies and research institutes in the region of Toulouse, one of the most dynamic fostering innovation in biomedicine in Europe, and stay in a university campus with 32,000 students, 65 laboratories and 127,600 square mt dedicated to research.

The faculty staff is composed of leading experts from the biopharmaceutical industry and research organizations in the United States, Canada, France and Spain. All participants will receive a certificate from the Doctoral School of the Paul Sabatier University.
