Don’t let the arrival of cold weather cause energy costs to skyrocket

An Arctic air mass has hit Catalonia, causing a significant drop in temperature. According to forecasts, cold, rain or even snow is expected to persist for several days.

To ensure our homes and workplaces are comfortable without wasting energy, it is essential to apply measures to keep heat from escaping: good insulation around windows, panes and door jambs; close the doors of large spaces to avoid heat loss and, where possible, take advantage of daylight hours for natural heating.

In households, 40% of energy consumption is spent on heating and air conditioning. For every degree bump on the thermostat, energy consumption increases by 5-7%. To maintain a good balance, the indoor temperature in winter should be between 19°C and 21°C. Thick curtains, carpets and blankets are warming elements you can use so that not all the heat in the house comes from heating systems.

In the PCB spaces, the general air-conditioning system renews the indoor air, and the comfort temperature is regulated by individual thermostats, except in the laboratories in the Cluster I building, where there are none. With the arrival of the holidays, we must make sure to switch off individual air-conditioning units, lights, computers and any appliances that are not in use.

Making energy saving a priority helps to reduce costs and care for the planet. We are committed to responsible energy management.
