Infinitec Activos opens a commercial affiliate office in the United States

Infinitec Activos, located at the PCB-Santander Bioincubator of the Barcelona Science Park, will open a commercial affiliate office in New York in January 2011 in order to consolidate its expansion in the United States. Alfons Hidalgo, general director and cofounder of the biotech, will manage the new sales offices. The decision to open a commercial affiliate office in the leading cosmetic market of the world is aimed at promoting the internationalization strategy and supporting the growth forecasts of the Catalan biotech, which is expected to invoice up to 5 million Euros within the next 5 years.

Up until now, George Cioca, former world vicepresident of research and development of the North-American group Estée Lauder, was the official distributor of compounds of Infinitec in the east coast of the United States. Cioca will continue to serve on the company’s Administration Board as scientific advisor.

At present, Infinitec Activos –created in 2004– focuses its activity on the development and innovation of advanced active ingredients for the cosmetic industry, and especially on the synthesis of biomolecules (peptides) and release systems based on key principles of nanoscience. Currently both funding partners –Alfonso Hidalgo and Josep Maria Borràs–, the venture risk capital company Innova 31, in which the Barcelona Science Park hols a stake; the Polytechnic University of Catalonia, la Caixa savings company, Union Interiores and EDM Holding- a group of private investors with a 26% stake share, have share participations in this biotech company.

In spite of being such a young company, Infinitec has already managed to set up offices in countries such as the United States, Canada, France, China, Korea and Japan, by means of agreements with over 48 distributors, and to conduct consolidated projects with companies such as Unilever, La Prairie, or Stee Lauder, amongst others. By the end of 2009, its sales reached 725,000 Euros, and the forecast for 2010 is 1.5 million Euros.
