19 April: Inaugural event “HeLa et al.” A video essay by Tess Marschner, the artist-in-residence at IBEC

“HeLa et al” is the result of the creative process carried out by visual artist Tess Marschner during her artist residency at the Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC). In her audiovisual piece titled “HeLa et al”, Marschner reflects on female and reproductive bodies within the technosciences: Henrietta Lacks’s immortalised human cell line, Dolly the sheep, uteruses, eggs and mice appear both as technical components of the scientific world and as entities that question the notion of “human”, raising ethical questions.

The inauguration of “HeLa et al” will take place at the Parc Científic de Barcelona on Friday, 19 April, at 4:30 p.m. in Dolors Aleu Room. It will be a unique opportunity to explore the creations of artist Tess Marschner and enjoy this fascinating experience where art meets science!
