Coronavirus: July 2021, the month with the most infections in the entire pandemic

While there has been a slightly downward trend in the last few days, Catalonia continues to record a high number of infections (more than 4,000 in the last 24 hours). At the same time, the pressure on the healthcare system is increasing, with more and more admissions to hospital and intensive care units every day.
In the Park, the number of cases has also sky-rocketed. July represents the peak period of the pandemic in terms of the number of infections. Just halfway through the month, 29 positive cases have already been recorded, doubling the number of cases recorded in the worst month so far in the Park.
In order to cope with this wave, it is important to avoid social interaction as much as possible and to respect the measures established to avoid transmission of the virus, as well as to adhere to proper quarantine.
As a result of this increase in cases, the vaccination campaign and the new Delta variant, the guidelines in case of close contact or symptoms have changed.
Unlike other SARS-CoV-2 variants, the Delta variant is associated with clinical symptoms similar to those of the common cold: runny nose, nasal congestion, sneezing, sore throat and headache. Symptoms may appear 14 days after exposure with a positive case. Please be particularly attentive.
If there is suspicion of infection, it is recommended that the person be placed in isolation while awaiting the results of a diagnostic test. If the result is negative and there is no other clinical suspicion, isolation is terminated.
In case of close contact with a positive person:

  • With symptoms: diagnostic test and quarantine (10 days).
  • Without symptoms: quarantine (10 days)
  • Vaccinated with single dose without symptoms: quarantine (10 days)
  • Vaccinated with a full schedule without symptoms: no restrictions.

Remember: if you have cold symptoms, do not go to work and if the symptoms appear during the working day or you are in close contact, before leaving, clean the workplace with ethanol and inform your occupational health and safety service. If that is not possible, report it to the Park or send an email to prevencio@pcb.ub.cat.
