Researchers Eduard Torrents from IBEC and Modesto Orozco from IRB Barcelona receive the ICREA Academia grant

Two researchers from the PCB community, Eduard Torrents and Modesto Orozco, who combine their teaching activity at the University of Barcelona with the leadership of their own research groups at IBEC and IRB Barcelona, ​​respectively, have been selected in the latest edition of the ICREA Academia programme. These grants, awarded by ICREA, Catalan Institution for Research and Advanced Studies, aim to promote high-impact research at universities in order to help retain research talent in Catalonia. The awardees in this call —37 men and 13 women— will receive 40,000 euros per year for a period of five years.

Dr. Eduard Torrents is head of the IBEC’s Bacterial Infections: Antimicrobial Therapies research group, and professor at the Department of Genetics, Microbiology and Statistic at the Faculty of Biology of the University of Barcelona (UB). His research focuses on the study of new antimicrobial therapies and strategies to combat bacterial infections with particular emphasis on multidrug-resistant bacteria and biofilms.

Dr. Modesto Orozco is professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the Department of Biochemistry at the Faculty of Biology of the University of Barcelona, and coordinator of the Molecular Modeling and Bioinformatics Program at IRB Barcelona, and the integrative research nodes. This marks the second time Dr. Orozco has been honored with this recognition.
