Meeting of the European Council of Bioregions at the PCB

On Friday 1 December, members of the (CEBR) met up at the Parc Científic de Barcelona(PCB, Barcelona Science Park). Supported by the VIth Framework Programme of the European Union, this council seeks to develop a common platform form which to promote cooperative action between bioregions, with the ultimate aim to strengthen European biotechnology.


Specifically, CEBR has set up work groups involved in a series of activities in fields such as initial funding, development, incubation and training, and human resources for enterprises operating in the biotech sector. In addition, this council promotes collaboration with other European initiatives such as Natibs (New Approaches and Tools for Incubated Biotech SMEs), a project for the development of new biotech companies; Afibio (Access to Finance in the Biotechnology Sector), focused on financing sources such as capital risk; NetBioClue, a network of biotech clusters in Europe, and BioSmile, which promotes collaboration between organizations with the aim to share experiences and resources. CEBR will also participate in the European Federation of Biotechnology congress, to be held in September 2007.

The executive committee of CEBR comprises representatives from the PCB, the Heidelberg Technology Park, the Rhein-Neckar-Dreieck bioregion, the industrial group ERBI, BioM AG (Munich BioTech Development), BioTOP Berlin Brandenburg, FlandersBio, Uppsala Bio, the Oxfordshire Bioscience Network, the University of Basilea, the Tallinn Tehnopol, the Lyon Genopole, the International Genopole and the EuropaBio business association.
