PCB presents its internationalization model at the IASP world conference

Within the framework of (IASP) and under the theme Science and Technology Parks: Serving the Companies and the Innovation Community, leading international experts in science and technology parks in the world gathered in Tallinn (Estonia) from 17 to 20 June, with representatives from the public, business and education sectors to discuss trends in the parks as support structures for innovation. Ignasi Heras, coordinator of Innovation at the Barcelona Science Park (PCB), travelled to the capital of Estonia on behalf of the institution and to present the internationalization model and the soft landing service offered by the PCB to technology-based companies worldwide.


The event held in Tallinn brought together 481 representatives from scientific and technology parks in 60 countries. The Spanish delegation, the second largest after Brazil, was composed of 30 representatives from 17 regional Spanish parks and networks, a fact that confirms the commitment of Spanish parks to internationalization as one of the strategic lines developed by the parks.

During the conference, organized by the IASP and the Tallinn Science Park Tehnopol- numerous activities were carried out, with the participation of renowned experts such as Kevin Johns, director of the City of Austin Economic Growth and Redevelopment Services Office; Martine Durand, head of Statistics at OECD (Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development) and; Maive Rute, director for Biotechnology, Agriculture and Food Research of the General Directorate of the European Commission, and Nicholas Brooke, chairman of Professional Property Services Group in Hong Kong, among others. During the event, Josep Miquel Piqué -vice-president of APTE (Spanish Association of Science and Technology Parks and director of Strategic Sectors at 22 @ Barcelona- was also selected as the new president of the European Division of the IASP.

The International Association of Science and Technology Parks (IASP) is the global network of science and technology parks and currently has about 390 member parks from 70 countries, among which is the Barcelona Science Park. Its members increase the competitiveness of companies and entrepreneurs in their cities and regions and contribute to the global economic development through innovation, entrepreneurship and transfer of knowledge and technology.

The IASP facilitates partnering with other international technological networks, which integrate groups and university research centres, technology centres, company incubators, large companies with their associated R&D partners, companies focused on innovation and new knowledge-based businesses. The IASP is one of the founding members of the Global Alliance for Innovation (WAINOVA) and has a Special Consultative status with the Economic and Social (ECOSOC) Council of the United Nations.
