PCB takes part in the 8th edition of the Science, Technology and Innovation Fair

Dozens of exhibitors and thousands of people will visit this weekend, 14 and 15 of June, the Science, Technology and Innovation Fair, that will be held at the Parc de la Ciutadella grounds. The Parc Cientific de Barcelona (PCB) will take part, once again, in this year´s meeting point that brings together researchers and the community. The fair is organized by the City Council to show the importance of research as an engine of change and development of the country.

In this edition, the Park Cientific de Barcelona will be present at the event through the Integrative Cell and Tissue Dynamics group at the Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC). The group will feature the theme “Cells join forces!” on Saturday, from 18.00 am to 20.30 pm, at the Darwin store, one of the designated spaces near the waterfall and the passeig dels Til•lers.

Laura Casares and Pilar Rodríguez, IBEC researchers, will lead the event, coordinated by Miriam Martinez, from the Public Understanding of Science Area of PCB. The researchers will carry out interactive experiments to show how the transmission of forces between cells occurs during migration, a process that is common in physiological and pathological conditions, and how they do it at the laboratory to measure them.

Over 100 researchers from different research centers, Institutes, and Universities of the city take collaborate in the Science, Technology and Innovation Fair. Dani Jimenez is the general coordinator and academic commissioner of the most participative initiatives addressed to family audiences and visitors.

This year, thematic tents with the names of scientists (Newton, Darwin, Curie, Gauss, Franklin, Turing, Einstein, Margalef) will be set up in spaces located around the waterfall and the passeig dels Til•lers that will house different activities from workshops to exhibitions. Surprising experiments, demonstrations, a scientific ring, a massive experiment consisting in the launching of 500 rockets and monologues that combine science and humor are some of the projects that have been planned. There will also be roaming facilities for the Blau Museum, Cosmocaixa, and the Dinamika program Canal Super 3 and Science in Action.

The Science, Technology and Innovation Fair is one of the initiatives of the Science, Technology and Innovation Festival, which, since its first edition in 2007, has become a landmark event in the cultural calendar of the city. This year it has emerged as a global project that includes various programs and activities in order to disseminate and bring scientific and technological culture closer to society and create ecosystems that facilitate contact and collaboration between the different cultural and business, scientific, technological agents . Of note among the most prominent acts, in addition to the party at the Ciudadela Park, are the scientific film festival, the debate day on Business and Research and their differences, the BcnLab or the different artistic projects planned in the city´s museums.
