PCB to take part in the 13th European Congress on Biotechnology

From 16-19 September Barcelona will host the thirteenth , organized by the European Federation of Biotechnology. Taking place in the Montjuïc congress centre the congress will bring together international researchers and experts, pharmaceutical companies, entrepreneurs and key players from the political and social sectors, the aim being to present cutting-edge science and the most advanced technology in the field, as well as generating debate about future perspectives. The Barcelona Science Park (PCB), one of the event's sponsors, will have its own stand at the congress and all the biotechnology-linked organizations located in the Park will be represented there.

The congress is one of the most important events in the international calendar and the main theme this year is the key role to be played by the life sciences industry in meeting the great challenges facing humanity, for example, on issues such as therapeutic cloning and the development of biofuels. Hence the congress title of “Symbiosis”, a concept that seeks to define the role played by biotechnology as a meeting point between research, industry and social needs.

Other themes of interest which will be addressed during the congress include technology transfer, the setting up of international cooperation agreements, the latest applications of biotechnology to agriculture and the environment, research developments in the field of new drugs, and other issues related to regulatory aspects, safety and ethical considerations.
