Samuel receives the Catalonian National Research Award for Young Talent

Yesterday IBEC group leader and ICREA research professor Samuel Sánchez at PCB, received the Catalonian National Research Award for Young Talent from the Catalan Government and the Catalan Foundation for Research and Innovation (FCRI).This prestigious honour and cash prize of €10,000 aims to encourage and acknowledge young researchers whose work and research has stood out during their professional career.

 

Samuel received his Young Talent award from president of the Government of Catalonia. Carles Puigdemont, Minister of Business and Knowledge Jordi Baiget and FCRI president Antoni Esteve at the Teatre Nacional de Catalunya.

Samuel was selected for his pioneering work in in the development of self-propelled nanomotors and nanorobots, devices with huge potential for advances in medical applications such as targeted drug delivery, as well as in environmental issues such as the fight against water pollution.

The Catalonian National Research Awards are the highest distinctions awarded in the field of research in Catalonia. With this awards, the Catalan Government and the Catalan Foundation for Research and Innovation promote the social recognition of outstanding researchers, patrons, companies and journalists.

This year’s winner of the Catalonian National Research Award in the senior category was Lluís Torner, director of ICFO. The Catalonian National Research Award for Scientific Sponsorship, Public-Private Partnership in R&D and Scientific Communication went to the “la Caixa” Foundation, the Centre Tecnològic de l’Aigua (Cetaqua), and Televisió de Catalunya’s Dinàmiks programme, respectively.
