The Catalan company Meteosim, based at the Barcelona Science Park, has signed an alliance with the German multinationa Olfasense to provide a comprehensive solution in the smart management of bad odours and resulting conflicts. Through this alliance, the two companies integrate their leading technology in the Ortelium platform, which enables the analysis of the environmental impact of past, current and future episodes, and includes advanced complaint management tools, facilitating smart decision-making in real time.

 

Salvador Aznar Benitah receives the “Premio Fundación Carmen y Severo Ochoa 2019” Blog Post

Salvador Aznar Benitah, ICREA at the Institute for Research in Biomedicine (IRB Barcelona) in the Barcelona Science Park, as received the “Premio Carmen y Severo Ochoa de Investigación en Biología Molecular” in acknowledgement of his work on adult stem cells and the relation of these with circadian rhythms and metastasis, and also in recognition of his recent entrepreneurial activity as co-founder of Ona Therapeutics.

 

Spanish science and technology parks met in Las Palmas Blog Post

Representatives of 64 Spanish science and technology parks met on 24 and 25 October in Gran Canaria as part of the second annual assembly of the Spanish Association of Science and Technology Parks (APTE). One of the most significant agreements adopted at this meeting, which was attended by Maria Terrades, CEO of the Barcelona Science Park, was the creation of a working group to implement the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at all member parks.

 

DD BioLab strengthens its leadership in the Spanish biotechnology sector Blog Post

The acquisition of Cultek and Teknovas by the Dutscher Group, the leading independent distributor of laboratory supplies in Europe, its Spanish subsidiary, DD BioLab, as the leading supplier in Spain of scientific instruments, consumables and laboratory equipment for research in biotechnology and health. Since it was established in Barcelona Science Park in 2014, DD BioLab has registered sustained 39% annual growth. In 2018, its turnover was around €5M and it expects to exceed €10M in 2022. 

 

CataloniaBioHT participates in the Annual Advisory Committee of the Catalonia’s Cluster Programme Blog Post

Last Thursday, the president of CataloniaBio & HealthTech (CataloniaBioHT), Jaume Amat, participated in the Annual Advisory Committee of the Catalonia’s Cluster Programme, promoted by ACCIÓ, alongside the other presidents of the 30 accredited clusters. The association, founded in 2017 as a result of the merger of CataloniaBio and HeathTech Cluster and headquartered in the Barcelona Science Park, has over 160 companies and agents in the field of biomedicine and health. 

 

The MessyCheffy project won the challenge launched by the PCB, the IBEC and the IRB in the iFest Countdown Blog Post

MessyCheffy, an interactive physiotherapy game for children with muscular dystrophy, developed by the Yallow team from the University of Barcelona, has won the “Rare Diseases” challenge set by the Barcelona Science Park, the Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC) and the Institute for Research in Biomedicine (IRB Barcelona) as part of the iFest Countdown initiative. The young finalists of this programme presented their prototypes to a panel at the Auditorium Imagina Mediapro today at the iFest Demo Day, during an event chaired by the director of Catalunya Emprèn, Pere Condom. 

 

Meteosim implements the world’s first comprehensive air quality management system in Riyadh Blog Post

Meteosim, headquartered in the Barcelona Science Park (PCB), has implemented a first-of-its-kind system in Riyadh to integrate, in a single platform, the city’s air quality forecast, atmospheric chemical emergency management and any related decision making. This is the world’s most ambitious project in this field allowing to predict the air quality in any given street in the capital city of Saudi Arabia, which has over 8 million inhabitants.

 

Binucleated cells could be the key in heart regeneration Blog Post

A team of researchers, led by Xavier Trepat, from the Institute of Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC) in collaboration with the Centre for Regenerative Medicine in Barcelona (CMR [B]), have discovered a surprising mechanism that generates binucleated cells during the regeneration of the heart of the zebrafish, and could be associated with the extraordinary regenerative power of this animal. The results of the work has attracted the attention of researchers from all over the world, who see the range of possibilities that would be opened up if this mechanism of cell regeneration could be applied in human therapies.
