GlyCardial Diagnostics wins the EmprendedorXXI 2019 Award in the ‘Health Tech’ category Blog Post

GlyCardial Diagnostics has won the  the EmprendedorXXI Award in the ‘Health Tech’ category, one of the six awards granted in its twelfth year to recognize those companies in Spain and Portugal with greatest growth potential in several sectors linked to the new innovation trends. The winners have been selected from 961 companies in Spain and Portugal. The biotechnology company, headquartered in the Barcelona Science Park, adds this award to the EmprendedorXXI Award in Catalonia, which it received on 9 May.

The companies GlyCardial Diagnostics, based in the Barcelona Science Park, and Mitiga Solutions, have been honoured with the EmprendedorXXI Award in Catalonia, which is promoted by CaixaBank –through DayOne, its specialized division that provides banking services for technology and innovation companies and its investors- and awarded jointly by the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Tourism, through Empresa Nacional de Innovación, S.A. (ENISA). The award ceremony was held yesterday in the Recinte Modernista of the Hospital de Sant Pau as part of the ‘DayOne Innovation Summit’ event. Outside of the regional prize, next May 14th the sectorial EntrepreneurXXI Awards will be awarded to 6 nationwide companies with the highest growth potential in their sector.

A study on autism done at IRB Barcelona in the running for the “Vanguardia de la Ciencia” Award Blog Post

For the fifth consecutive year, the Institute for Research in Biomedicine (IRB Barcelona) based in PCB has been nominated for the  “Vanguardia de la Ciencia” Award, thanks to research into autism, done in collaboration with the Centre for Molecular Biology “Severo Ochoa” (CBMSO), joint center between the Superior Council of Scientific Investigations (CSIC) and the Autonomous University of Madrid (UAM). The work in question established that the CPEB4 protein, which coordinates the expression of hundreds of genes necessary for neuronal activity, is altered in the brains of patients with this neurological disorder.

 

Europe looks to cells for a healthier future Blog Post

Researchers from the Centro Nacional de Análisis Genómico (CNAG-CRG) –based in the Barcelona Science Park and integrated into the Centre for Genomic Regulation (CRG) take part in the LifeTime consortium, which aims at understanding the constant changes within cells and their relationship to disease. The initiative will receive one million euros to devise a plan how to embed its vision into the European research and innovation landscape.

 

The PCB participates in a new edition of iFest: the festival of technology, science and disruptive innovation Blog Post

iFest, an event promoted by Catalunya Emprèn which brings young people closer to science, technology and disruptive innovation, is getting ready for a new edition, which will be preceded this year by a four-month learning and mentoring process, the iFest Countdown. During this programme, players will develop prototypes responding to real-life challenges proposed by various entities—including the Barcelona Science Park (PCB), the Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC) and the Institute of Biomedical Research (IRB Barcelona). In 2019’s iFest Zero, each team will have to defend their project and compete with other participants.

 

Tumor cell expansion challenges current physics Blog Post

The journal Nature Physics published a study by a team led by Xavier Trepat, ICREA researcher at the Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC) in the Barcelona Science Park and lecturer at the Department of Biomedicine University of Barcelona (UB), and Jaume Casademunt, professor of Physics at the UB, reveals the forces these tumor cells use to spread. The relation between these forces and the cell movement goes beyond current physical laws.

Genesis Ventures selects the NeuroHeal project by the UAB’s Neurosciences Institute for its first investment Blog Post

The Genesis Ventures fund—managed by the consultancy firm Genesis Biomed headquartered in the Barcelona Science Park—has secured its first deal with its investment of €75,000 in the NeuroHeal project, a new pharmacological combination that accelerates nerve regeneration, developed at the Neurosciences Institute (INc) of the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB).
