IBEC obtains a second accreditation as Severo Ochoa Centre of Excellence Blog Post

The Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC), based in the Barcelona Science Park, is one of the six centres in Spain to be awarded accreditation in this round of the Severo Ochoa Excellence programme. Furthermore, IBEC is the only center that receives this accreditation for the second time. The awards last for four years and bring a million euros each year to the winning centres, it also implies strengthening research capacities and boosting success rates in other competitive funding programmes.

 

Núria Montserrat represents the European Research Council at the WEF Summer Davos in China Blog Post

Núria Montserrat, ICREA professor and principal investigator at the Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC) was among the nine scientists representatives of the European Research Council (ERC) at the Annual Meeting of the New Champions (AMNC), also known as “Summer Davos“. Organised by the World Economic Forum (WEF) in the Chinese city of Dailan from 1 to 3 July, the 2019 edition of this event brought together the brightest minds on the planet to discuss issues related to scientific research, leadership, and innovation.

MessyCheffy, an interactive physiotherapy game for children with muscular dystrophy, developed by the Yallow team from the University of Barcelona, has won the “Rare Diseases” challenge set by the Barcelona Science Park, the Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC) and the Institute for Research in Biomedicine (IRB Barcelona) as part of the iFest Countdown initiative. The young finalists of this programme presented their prototypes to a panel at the Auditorium Imagina Mediapro today at the iFest Demo Day, during an event chaired by the director of Catalunya Emprèn, Pere Condom.

The Young Academy of Spain has been constituted today in the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities with the aim of representing and giving visibility to young scientists, preferably from the field of experimental sciences. World’s first baby is born in Greece through of Maternal Spindle Transfer technique developed by Embryotools Blog Post

Through pioneering clinical research, Embryotools, based in the Barcelona Science Park, and Institute of Life in Athens have achieveg birth of the world’s first healthy baby through the pioneering Maternal Spindle Transfer method to solve infertility problems. This technique was implemented by the Greek IVF center and Spanish research center to address fertility issues associated with multiple in vitro fertilization (IVF) failures caused by cytoplasmic dysfunction of the oocytes or rare mitochondrial genetic diseases.

The Barcelona Science Park participates in the first “City and Science Biennial” Blog Post

The Barcelona Science Park is to participate in the 1st edition of the “City and Science Biennial”—organised by the Barcelona City Council, via the Culture Institute of Barcelona (ICUB) –with the aim of improving the dissemination of scientific knowledge generated in the city, and creating closer ties with society. The programme, which comprises the participation of 118 entities and the collaboration of academics, researchers, teachers and scientists, includes around 90 activities that will take place between 7 and 11 February in over 72 locations across the city’s ten districts.
