The FBG awards €100,000 to four UB projects for the valorisation of research Blog Post

On 18 January, the FBG, located at PCB, presented the grants of the Valorisation Fund (FVal) of the Fund for the Promotion of Innovation (F2i). Within this funding programme, € 25,000 were awarded to each selected project, which will be used to valorize projects of the University of Barcelona with a high potential for transfer and impact on our society. 

 

SOLVE-RD: Major European grant for research into rare diseases Blog Post

The CNAG-CRG at PCB participates in a large consortium led by the University of Tübingen, the Radboud University Medical Center Nijmegen and the University of Leicester that has acquired a € 15 million grant for the SOLVE-RD research program he researchers will work directly with four European Reference Networks (ERNs) to share and enhance the knowledge and resources used for treating rare diseases.

 

Chemotargets signs a research collaboration agreement with FDA/CDER Blog Post

The Food and Drug Administration’s Center for Drug Evaluation and Research (FDA-CDER) and Chemotargets –a spin off from the IMIM Hospital del Mar Medical Research Institut and located at the Barcelona Science Park– will work together under a 5-year Research Collaboration Agreement (RCA). The collaboration aims to enhance CDER’s safety assessments of human pharmaceuticals, supporting the FDA’s mission of protecting public health.

Cells sense their environment to explore it Blog Post

The way cells find their way around is by ‘groping’ rather than seeing their surroundings: this is the main conclusion of a study published in Nature last week involving several IBEC groups and their collaborators. A genetic mutation in the evolution of animals explains the origin of some human organs Blog Post

A neutral genetic mutation –a fluke in the evolutionary process with no apparent biological purpose– that appeared over 700 million years ago in biological evolution could help explain the origin of complex organs and structures in human beings and other vertebrates, according to an article published in Nature Communications by a team led by Professor Jordi García-Fernàndez, from the Faculty of Biology of the University of Barcelona (UB) and the Institute of Biomedicine of the UB (IBUB) at the Barcelona Science Park (PCB), Manuel Irimia (CRG) and Maria Ina Arnone (Anton Dohrn Zoological Station, Italy).
