TMB Foundation colaborates with Aromics to combat the effects of health arising from asbestos Blog Post

IRB Barcelona researcher Roger Gomis receives a grant from Fundación Fero Blog Post

The Fundación Fero, an organisation devoted to furthering cancer research, with the collaboration of Mango, has awarded Roger Gomis, ICREA researcher at the Institute for Research in Biomedicine (IRB Barcelona) in the Barcelona Science Park, funding for his project addresses the development of breast cancer metastasis. The grants were presented last night in one of two yearly charity events organised by the foundation in Madrid and, once again.

 

IBEC presents its capabilities in 3D bioprinting at the 4th edition of INDUSTRY Blog Post

The Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC), based in the Barcelona Science Park, participated in the fourth edition of INDUSTRY From Needs to Solutions, which took place from 29th to 31st October at Fira Barcelona´s Gran Via venue. The event brought together more than 150 companies in its exhibition area and 150 speakers within the framework of Barcelona Industry Week, that brought together seven major events related to digital transformation at Fira Barcelona. IoT Solutions World Congress, Blockchain Solutions World and AI & Cognitive Systems Forum were other events that added to this great summit where the achievements and innovations of disruptive technologies in the field of health became evident.

 

Researchers from CNAG, IBEC and IRB Barcelona receive funding from La Marató 2018 Blog Post

Yesterday, the Fundació La Marató de TV3 announced the research teams of excellence that will receive funding thanks to 15 million euros, a record amount, collected in the last edition of the program, for cancer research. Collaborative projects involving researchers from three centres located in the Barcelona Science Park (PCB) are among the winners, namely the Centro Nacional de Análisis Genómico (CNAG-CRG), the Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC) and the Institute for Research in Biomedicine (IRB Barcelona). 

 

Molomics opens an investment round to accelerate an innovative project against Parkinson’s Blog Post

Molomics Biotech, based in the Barcelona Science Park, has just opened a financing round of 400,000 euros through the online investment platform Capital Cell, allowing also small private investors to acquire shares of the company. With this capital increase, the Spanish startup –which has a financial and professional support of the Michael J. Fox Foundation wants to enter the preclinical phase with an innovative treatment to fight involuntary movements (dyskinesias) associated with Parkinson’s.

 

Rob Surgical, a spin-off from IBEC and UPC, closes a €5 million investment round Blog Post

Rob Surgical, a spin-off created by the Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC), based in the PCB, and the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC) in 2012, has closed a €5 million investment round with the Dutch holding Scranton Enterprises to fund the final phase of the new Bitrack System –an alternative to the current laparoscopy surgical robot Da Vinci– and launch the product onto the market.

 

The 2nd edition of Asebio Investor Day attracted around 300 participants and 60 international investors Blog Post

26 September saw the 2nd edition of the Asebio Investor Day, which was organised by Asebio with the collaboration of Barcelona Science Park (PCB), the Biotechnology Markets Platform) ICEX Spain Trade and Investment and the Alternative Spanish Equity Market. Droplite, Molomics, Ona Therapeutics and SOM Biotech, all based at PCB, were among 50 companies selected to present their projects at the financing forum, in which 57 investors from 10 countries around the world participated.

An international team led by researchers of the Centre for Research in Agricultural Genomics (CRAG) in conjunction with Tyler Alioto of the Centre Nacional d’Anàlisi Genòmica (CNAG-CRG) –based in PCB and part of the Centre for Genomic Regulation (CRG)– has sequenced the genome of the almond tree and compared it to that of its closest relative, the peach tree. The results provide some unique insights into the recent evolution of both species and will be key tools in their genetic improvement, including the eradication of bitter almonds, fruit quality and adaptation to climate change.
