The European project GLAM develops a multiplexed biosensor for personalized diagnosis and therapy for bladder cancers Blog Post

A European consortium led by Centre Tecnològic Leitat –through its Biomed Division in the Barcelona Science Park (PCB)– has finished the GLAM project, the aim of which was to develop a photonic biosensor for a non-invasive diagnosis and personalized therapy for bladder cancers. The project involved the participation of 10 European organizations with resources and capabilities from the academia and scientific and business field, among them the Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC), which is also located in PCB.

The Young Academy of Spain has been constituted today in the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities with the aim of representing and giving visibility to young scientists, preferably from the field of experimental sciences. One of the founding members and vice president of this new scientific institution is ICREA researcher Toni Gabaldón, with double affiliation to the Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC-CNS) and IRB Barcelona, leading the Comparative Genomics group.

 

Record-breaking turnout at Bio€quity from the Barcelona Science Park Blog Post

On 20 and 21 May, Barcelona played host for the first time to Bio€quity Europe, the main investment event focussing on the European biopharmaceutical industry, thanks to an initiative from the Comité Anfitrión Regional (Regional Hosting Committee) comprising Biocat, CataloniaBio & HealthTech, ACCIÓ and Ysios Capital. A dozen companies from the Barcelona Science Park (PCB) were chosen by the organisation as some of the 80 most promising biotechnologies in Europe to present their project to the 550 investors, business developers and experts into biopharmaceutical licensing that attended the event.

 

GlyCardial Diagnostics wins the EmprendedorXXI 2019 Award in the ‘Health Tech’ category Blog Post

GlyCardial Diagnostics has won the  the EmprendedorXXI Award in the ‘Health Tech’ category, one of the six awards granted in its twelfth year to recognize those companies in Spain and Portugal with greatest growth potential in several sectors linked to the new innovation trends. The winners have been selected from 961 companies in Spain and Portugal. The biotechnology company, headquartered in the Barcelona Science Park, adds this award to the EmprendedorXXI Award in Catalonia, which it received on 9 May.

 

GlyCardial Diagnostics receives the EmprendedorXXI Award in Catalonia Blog Post

The companies GlyCardial Diagnostics, based in the Barcelona Science Park, and Mitiga Solutions, have been honoured with the EmprendedorXXI Award in Catalonia, which is promoted by CaixaBank –through DayOne, its specialized division that provides banking services for technology and innovation companies and its investors- and awarded jointly by the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Tourism, through Empresa Nacional de Innovación, S.A. (ENISA). The award ceremony was held yesterday in the Recinte Modernista of the Hospital de Sant Pau as part of the ‘DayOne Innovation Summit’ event. Outside of the regional prize, next May 14th the sectorial EntrepreneurXXI Awards will be awarded to 6 nationwide companies with the highest growth potential in their sector.

 

The Barcelona Science Park launches the 15th edition of BATX2LAB Blog Post

The Barcelona Science Park has just opened the registration for the 15th edition of BATX2LAB, which offers High School students the chance to carry out the practical part of their research project in the PCB laboratories under the tutorship of a scientist. This initiative is part of PCB’s Research in Society programme –a proposal to bring science to citizens and promote research careers in young student– that offers over 100 activities in which around 5,000 people participate every year.

 

Two UB centers create a new platform on neurotoxicology and drug testing based on stem cells Blog Post

The Production and Validation Center for Advanced Therapies (Creatio) and the Research Centre on Toxicology (CERETOX) –through the Unit of Experimental Toxicology and Ecotoxicology (UTOX) from the Barcelona Science Park (PCB–, entities of the University of Barcelona with the Tecnio seal, have created the platform Avantdrug. The new platform offers services to companies and research groups to carry out drug neurotoxicity tests and drug screenings in vitro using neurons taken from pluripotent stem cells (HPSC).
