The Barcelona Science Park will be at HiT Barcelona 2010, the world innovation summit

An important representative part of the Barcelona Science Park will participate in the 2nd Annual Hothouse for Innovation and Technology, HiT Barcelona'10, which will be held on June 16 and 17 at the premises of the Fira de Barcelona, in Montjuic, within the framework of the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Week, , where over 10,000 attendees are expected. It is the only world summit that brings together innovation gurus, entrepreneurs and investors with the aim of promoting strategic business projects in the three key sectors with the highest growth potential: Telecommunications, Cleantech (alternative, clean and renewable energies) and Healthcare (Health Sciences and Biotechnology).

HiT is the result of an initiative promoted by the Ministry of Industry, Tourism and Trade, the Generalitat de Catalunya, the Barcelona City Council and the Chamber of Commerce of Barcelona, and is organized by the Strategic Metropolitan Plan of Barcelona and the Fira de Barcelona. The idea of making Barcelona the permanent site for an event dedicated to innovation emerged from the Strategic Metropolitan Plan of Barcelona. Since this first action, different entities began to join the project, until the support of the main public institutions was obtained.

The le format of the HiT is structured in three areas: the Plenary Congress, a programme offering sector-related conferences with first line speakers; Ideas & Investment Marketplaces, an interaction space with sector-related activities to discover the latest investment trends, and speed dating and matching sessions to set projects in motion; and the Global Entrepreneurship Competition, a contest where the 25 best business plans worldwide, selected by the main international entrepreneurial centres, will compete to obtain the funding needed to develop their projects. This 2nd annual HiT Barcelona has also included the Global Judging Committee, composed of the 30 most important investors in the world who will serve as the referees of the Global Entrepreneurship Competition.

This year the summit also includes , which will take place on June 16 at the Palau de Congressos of the Fira de Barcelona, and where companies, institutions and R+D+I policy managers will be able to discuss models for urban clusters and technological parks in knowledge economy. Richard Florida, director of Martin Prosperity Institute, will be in charge of conducting the opening conference. The vice-president of the International Association of Science Parks, and the deputy rector of the Barcelona Science Park, Joan Bellavista; the president of the Competitiveness Institute, Alberto Pezzi; and the president of the European Cluster Policy Group and former minister of Economy of Slovenia, Tea Petrin, will also participate in the symposium.

HiT Barcelona is geared towards businessmen and women, R+D+I managers, entrepreneurs, members of the investor community, and all those people who are interested in learning more about the future of innovation, new technologies and business opportunities. Entities based at the Barcelona Science Park will receive a 70% discount for advance registrations.
