The FECYT (Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology) and the Science Parks of Barcelona and Madrid establish a Think Tank for the development of nanotechnology in Spain

The PCB, the "Parque Científico de Madrid" (Madrid Science Park) and the "Fundación Española para la Ciencia y la Tecnología" (FECYT) have set up a Think Tank, or Idea Laboratory. This initiative aims to expedite permanent relations and exchange between the agents of the R+D+i system and to contribute to the development of a technological innovation system that allows maximum return from the know-how produced by scientists in Spain. Another objective is to foster collaboration opportunities in distinct industrial sectors.

The first Think Tank meeting will be on 2-3 December in the El Escorial, Madrid, which will bring together Spanish researchers in nanotechnology, representatives from the most productive industrial and technological sectors as well as several institutions.

The final objective is to develop an nanotechnology observatory which allows the information produced in these sessions to be managed. This management system seeks to facilitate the strategic decision-making process of public administration and to involve enterprises and society at large in future projects carried out in this sector.

Organized along dynamic and open lines, the Think Tank allows the exchange of ideas and proposals and provides a tool through which to find solutions to problems. In addition, the tank will also facilitate the presentation and analysis of technology potential, as well as examples of success and failure, and the design of models, both new ones and those based on specific examples.

A knowledge management tool has been developed for the Think Tank which will allow all members of this forum to communicate through virtual sessions.

The organization of this forum has also involved the Information Society Research Centre at the UAM ( CIC ); European Nantechnology Network, Phantoms; Círculo de Innovación en Microelectrónica y Nanotecnologías del Sistema Madri+d , the Círculo de Innovación en Microelectrónica y Nanotecnologias, part of the Madri+D System, which is run by the regional authority in Madrid, and the National Institute for Aerospace Technology Instituto Nacional de Técnica Aerospacial (INTA).
