The PCB and the UB will extend research cooperation with Andorra

The Rector of the UB, Màrius Rubiralta, the General Director of Barcelona Science Park (PCB) Fernando Albericio and the Director of the Barcelona Office of the Jordi Guillamet, located within the PCB, met a delegation from the Andorrran Government on the 28th September. The delegation was led by the Minister Spokesman for Culture and Education Juli Minoves, the Director of research Marc Jover and the Rector of the University of Andorra Daniel Bastida. The purpose of the meeting was to extend the collaboration that has existed for many years between the UB and the Government of Andorra, and to define new projects for joint collaboration in research.

In the course of the meeting of the two delegations in Andorra, it was agreed that the Centre d’Estudis de la Neu i la Muntanya (CENMA) (Centre for Snow and Mountain Studies) will share future installations at the Port d’Envalira, where it is soon to be established, with researchers at the UB. Until recently this site, which is 2,500 m above sea level, housed a radio station. It is expected to be available from next year.

This initiative will allow various joint research projects between the UB and the Government of Andorra dealing with the study of climate and geological risks. Researchers from the at the PCB, under the direction of Xavier Rodó, and scientists from the UB, like Joan Manuel Vilaplana from the Geology Faculty, who were also present at the meeting, will participate in these projects.

This agreement is an example of the interest shared by both delegations in fostering cooperation in research projects between the Government and the University. This objective is also reflected in the fact that the Barcelona Office of the Institute for Andorran Studies has moved from the old historic building of the UB to the Barcelona Science Park, where it has been established from January of this year.
