Calella hosts the second ‘Vi per Vida’ wine-tasting event in support of research into cancer metastasis

This morning the sommelier Xavi Ayala in Calella has presented the «Vi per Vida» charity wine-tasting event in a press conference held in the Town Hall of Calella. This activity will be held for around 440 participants on 29 November in the Llobet–Guri Factory. The proceeds from the «Vi per Vida» activities are devoted to the Institute for Research in Biomedicine (IRB Barcelona) –based in the PCB–, which has a specific line of investigation focused on cancer and metastasis.

«Vi per Vida» is a charity organisation promoted by Xavier Ayala that was set up in April this year with the aim to raise money for research into metastasis and increase the public’s awareness of the value of investigation. The event in Calella follows on from the success of the first, which was held at the end of May in Mollerussa.

“We bring Catalan wine to the public in a fun activity involving audio-visual presentations and Catalan pop music, and as a group effort we all contribute to a worthy cause,” explains Xavi Ayala.

In this regard, Roger Gomis, a researcher at IRB Barcelona says, “Initiatives like «Vi per Vida» are highly relevant not only because of the funds raised for investigation but because they increase public awareness of the importance of investing in metastasis research, as metastases are the leading cause of death from cancer”.

The mayor of Calella, Montserrat Candini, comments that “research forms part of our everyday lives and from town halls we should also contribute to promoting these activities, which encompass charity, public awareness and research”.

For only five euros, participants will get to taste wines classified with the DOs (Designation of Origin) of Alella (2), Costers del Segre, Pla de Bages, and Empordà, thus experiencing a sensory trip around the different regions of Catalonia. The event will be presented by the journalist Elisabet Carnicè and the wine-tasting will be guided by Xavi Ayala himself. Participants will be served by catering students from the Institut Bisbe Sivilla in Calella, who will also provide dishes to sample.

Tickets for the event can be purchased at three places in Calella (Fruits secs Tulsà, Restaurant Sapore d’Italia, and the Institut Bisbe Sivilla) and via ticketea.com and «Vi per Vida».
