Esteve picks up Company of the Year Award

Esteve has won the Company of the Year Award 2017 which is sponsored by Grupo Zeta and Banc Sabadell and recognises contributions to creating wellbeing and progress. The pharmaceutical chemical group, which has its Drug Discovery and Preclinical Development Units at the Barcelona Science Park, is a leader in the international pharmaceutical industry due to its continuous innovation in the traditional R&D model and unswerving commitment to promoting excellence in research ecosystems. Albert Esteve, the company’s Chairman, is to collect the award today at Casa Llotja de Mar in Barcelona at a ceremony attended by a wide range of political, social and industry figures.

The Company of the Year Award comes as recognition of Esteve’s excellent track record since it started out in 1929, its sustained growth, its competitiveness and its contribution to the development of the business community. With a turnover of over €800 million, it has a 2,473-strong workforce and production plants and subsidiaries in a number of European countries, the United States, Mexico and China. It markets its extensive drug formulary list of products in over 60 countries.

The Awards Jury has also taken into account Esteve’s corporate model anchored in responsible and sustainable competitiveness. In 2002, the company signed up for the United Nations Global Compact on corporate social responsibility. Today it has steady and long-term partnerships with over 150 non-profits to globalise the right to health and also fight poverty and the risk of social exclusion.

Esteve and the Barcelona Science Park have worked closely together since 2003 when the pharmaceutical chemical group set up the first research laboratories in its facilities. This partnership became even stronger in 2012 when Esteve sited its Centre for Drug Discovery and Preclinical Development in the Cluster Building at the PCB. The creation of the new Esteve-PCB Joint Unit in 2016 bolsters this strategic alliance and both organisations’ commitment to sustainable R&D in an open innovation environment where the search for synergies and public-private partnership take centre stage.
