PCB takes part in Novum 2015, the 9th edition of the Science, Technology and Innovation Fair

On 25 and 26 April, Plaza de Glòries will turn into a huge laboratory setting where people of all ages will be able to enjoy a hands-on experience in science, technology and innovation, and many of the various activities planned for the ninth edition of the Science, Technology and Innovation Fair: Novum 2015. As every year, the Parc Científic de Barcelona (PCB) will take part in the meeting point where scientists, artists, students, entrepreneurs and citizens will all have a chance to interact and exchange ideas.

The fair, which this year changes location and moves from Parc de la Ciutadella to the Design Hub Barcelona- is one of the five activities that will be hosted within the framework of Novum 2015. It is promoted by the Barcelona City Council with the objective of generating new ecosystems that enable creative and the exchange of knowledge in the field of art, research and business as the driving force of the country.

The PCB will be represented at the event by the Integrative Dynamics of Cells and Tissues Research Group of the Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC) with the proposal “Cells do strength!’ which will be held on Saturday from 16.00 until 22.00 pm at the Curie tent  installed in Plaza de las Glories.

The activity will be coordinated by Miriam Martinez from the Diffusion of Knowledge Department at PCB and IBEC researchers Laura Casaste and Pilar Rodriguez will be conducting interactive experiments to show how forces between cells are transmitted during migration (standard processes under both normal and physiological conditions) and how they measure such forces in their labs.

Novum 2015 is organized by the Directorate of Creativity and Innovation of the Instituto de Cultura de Barcelona and is aimed at   promoting creativity and innovation in Barcelona. Universities, research centers and other city agents will be participating in the event which features a program structured into five area. There will be four other initiatives at the Fair:  Citizen Science (14 to 30 April at La Virreina); Arts and  Interferences (14 to 30 April at the Design Hub Barcelona, MACBA, Museo Picasso and Mobile World Center);   Audiovisual Show (17 to 19 April at the Design Hub Barcelona) and Novum Pro (15 to 24 April at Design Hub Barcelona, Salón de Cien,  Parliament of Catalonia and Cosmocaixa).
