PCB to take part in Eurobio 2007

From 26-28 September the French city of Lille will host the 11th congress, which aims to provide a platform for promoting the biomedical sector and biotechnology industry across Europe. The Barcelona Science Park (PCB), which will be represented on the stand set up by the , will also take part in the activities that form part of the event's scientific programme.

On 26 September the scientific director of the PCB, Sonia Martínez, will give a paper as part of a round-table session on technology transfer, the title of which is BioIncubators’ mentoring & advising teams: required skills and successful organisational models, moderated by David J Hardman, director of Babraham Bioscience Technologies Limited.

During her talk, Sonia Martínez will explain the Park’s bioincubator project and discuss the type of skills and organizational models that are essential to ensure the success of the initiative, one which aims to foster the growth of new companies (such as spin- offs and start-ups) by means of various support mechanisms on different levels (financial, scientific/technological, advice in the area of business development, etc.).

In addition to the topic of technology transfer the event’s scientific programme also includes over 70 sessions dedicated to discussion and debate about the new trends and future perspectives of biotechnology applications in the fields of medicine, agriculture and the environment. It will also analyse the financial context in which various projects and alliances are being developed in the sector, as well as the strategies being used to capture investors.

This year’s event, the slogan of which is “Meet. Share. Grow”, is expected to draw over 400 exhibitors from twenty countries, as well as 180 speakers. Last year’s congress was attended by almost 5,000 people.
