The Barcelona Science Park and KIMbcn sign a collaboration agreement to promote innovation and technological valuation

The Barcelona Science Park (PCB) and Knowledge Innovation Market Barcelona (KIMbcn) have signed a collaboration agreement aimed at establishing a framework to carry out the necessary joint actions to favour the technological commercialisation of opportunities created within the PCB. The agreement has been signed by the director general of the Barcelona Science Park, Fernando Albericio, and the president of Knowledge Innovation Market Barcelona, Eusebi Cima.


The agreement reflects both parties’ wish to create links related with innovation and technological assessment and establishes five main intervention lines: detection of technological opportunities by both parts; research of grants and project funding; participation in the dissemination and commercialisation of PCB technologies using technological bridges, fairs and other promoted events or those in which KIMbcn is already taking park; dissemination and communication of the “best practices” identified by the PCB and participation in networking actions and technology or knowledge dissemination events aimed at companies.

The collaboration between PCB and KIMbcn will result in adding efforts to bridge the gap between the science and research worlds and the business world. The agreement will also contribute to establish cooperation nexuses for the development of private management projects that generate economic progress from the potentialities and technological capacities born out of PCB’s setting.

With the objective of achieving improved coordination of joint activities, a follow-up committee comprised of two representatives from each institution has been created; this committee will meet every three months in order to assess collaboration outcomes, and will determine joint action proposals for the possible projects of the next trimester.

Located in the innovation district, the 22@ of Barcelona, KIMbcn (Knowledge Innovation Market Barcelona) is an initiative of the Chamber of Commerce of Barcelona and the Leitat Technological Centre, and was developed with the objective of providing technological value to companies and organisations and offering global solutions to technological innovation needs. It is dedicated to the diagnosis and implementation of technology valuation strategies acknowledging each and every step of the value chain, from the research phase to development and finally to commercialisation. In order to define its own model of technological valuation, KIMbcn is based on emergent innovation and technology transfer models such as open innovation, entrepreneurial co-development and market intelligence.
