The Barcelona Science Park expresses its commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals

Coinciding with the fourth anniversary of the approval of the United Nations 2030 Agenda, the Barcelona Science Park (PCB) seeks to promote in all its areas the incorporation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) blueprint, in response to the international need for a consensus framework to address the global challenges facing humanity.

On 25 September 2015, the United Nations General Assembly approved the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, a road map with 17 goals (SDGs) and 169 economic, social and environmental targets to be achieved by 2030. These objectives and targets will stimulate action over the next 15 years in five areas of critical importance for humanity, known as the five ‘P’s: People, Planet, Prosperity, Peace and Partnership.

The Barcelona Science Park wants to make clear its commitment to contribute to this global road map to move towards sustainable development and has launched a series of initiatives to incorporate the SDGs into its strategy of action and growth. To coordinate action programmes and support the implementation of relevant strategies, the PCB has created an Internal Working Group on Sustainable Development.

As a first action, this team is taking stock of the 2019 management in terms of SDGs. All information collected will be published in the next annual report. It is also working on identifying priority investment areas by 2020. In the coming phases, a strategic action plan that enhances the involvement of the PCB in the SDGs will be developed, the coherence of the commitment in all areas of action will be ensured, and this cross-contribution will be monitored and evaluated in its three dimensions: economic, social and environmental.

In parallel, this working group will reinforce and give visibility to all the projects of the entities that are part of the PCB Community linked to the purpose of the new 2030 Agenda to build a more just and sustainable world.
