The Parc Cientific de Barcelona promotes entrepreneurship and innovation in Bizbarcelona 2014

As part of the Bizbarcelona exhibition –the reference event in Catalonia for business creation and growth that has taken place at the Montjuïc Exhibition Centre– the Parc Cientific de Barcelona held the round table ''The time of creation: From public research to technology company". The PCB was also present at the Consulting & Services area to provide personalized guidance for SMEs and entrepreneurs of start-ups on the process of starting a business, access to financing/funding, technology transfer, innovation and internationalization.


In its fourth edition, the main objective of Bizbarcelona was to encourage entrepreneurship and the activity of small and medium enterprises as generators of economic growth and employment. With a format that combines a trade show with an extensive conference program, PCB provided several theme areas with a wide range of activities tailored to the different needs and concerns of attendees.

Within the framework of this context, the Parc Cientific de Barcelona held on Thursday, 5 June the roundtable “The moment of creation: from public research to technology company”. The panelists were technology companies entrepreneurs who will discuss the process followed since they decided that their research could lead to a company to the birth of that company.

The session was moderated by Jesus Purroy, technical director of Science and Technology Services at the PCB, and featured the participation of Antoni Brey, general director of Urbiotica, a clear example of technology transfer between research institutions and Catalan companies from the Smart Cities sector; Teresa Tarrago, founder partner and general director of Iproteos, a spin-off of the Institute for Research in Biomedicine (IRB Barcelona) and the University of Barcelona; Lluís Armengol Dulcet, general director and founder of Genomics, the first spin-off that emerged from the Centre for Genomic Regulation (CRG ) with the participation of the Pompeu Fabra University (UPF ); Joan Aymami, vicepresident of International Business in Europe and Latin America of AWS Truepower, a leading global consultancy firm in the field of renewable energy; and Ignasi Vilajosana, general director and co-founder of the start-up Worldsensing, created by a team of software engineers and phDs in telecommunications with the support of the Fundación José Manuel Entrecanales.

“Technology transfer is only a part of creation process of a business from the public sector. The round table discussed other elements that promote or hinder technology transfer”- explained Jesús Purroy.

The Parc Cientific de Barcelona was also present at the Consulting & Services area. In this scenario, Jesus Purroy and Ignasi Heras –Networking coordinator of the Development of Business and Innovation Area at the PCB- provided personalized ad-hoc guidance to entrepreneurs of SMEs and technology start-ups on the creation process of a company, access to financing/funding, innovation and technology, marketing and sales techniques and internationalization.

With over 12,000 visitors, Bizbarcelona, the flagship exhibition for SMEs, entrepreneurs and freelancers- organized by the Fira de Barcelona, the Barcelona City Council, through Barcelona Activa, and the Generalitat of Catalonia, is held annually at the fairgrounds of Montjuïc.
