The 2010 National Award in Genetics goes to Montserrat Aguadé from the IRBio

The Minister of Education, Ángel Gabilondo, presided the awards ceremony of the second edition of the National Award in Genetics, the winner of which has been Montserrat Aguadé, professor of the Department of Genetics and member of the Institute for Biodiversity of the UB (IRBio), based at the Barcelona Science Park. The awards were granted on July 8 during the 5th Congress on Plant Genetics Improvement, held at the Higher Technical School of Agricultural Engineering of Madrid. The awards, granted by the Pryconsa Foundation and Spanish Society of Genetics, are an acknowledgement of the contribution of genetics research experts to areas of social interest. Montserrat Aguadé is the leader of the UB's Evolutionary Molecular Genetics Research Group, a scientific team that studies research lines on the genomics of populations and molecular adaptation in Drosophilai Arabidopsis; the detection of natural selection in Drosophila, and the study of polymorphism for inversions and chromosomal evolution in Drosophila.
