The Barcelona Science Park has achieved ISO 14001 certification

The Barcelona Science Park has successfully passed the audit and verification process required for ISO 14001:2004 certification, which certifies that the Environmental Management System (EMS) of its buildings and facilities meets the requirements of this International Standard. This is the first time a Spanish science park gets the certificate associated with the compliance standards set by a specific European standard in the environmental sector.

This accreditation, awarded by the SGS Group, has been achieved through the implementation and management of an Environmental Management System, the PCB has voluntarily undertaken to identify and assess environmental impacts that are generated in each of the activities carried out, define targets for improvement, and implement a management program to achieve such targets, in order to carry out its mission efficiently and in harmony with the principles and criteria of economic, social and environmental sustainability.

ISO 9001 Certification for Core Scientific Services The Barcelona Science Park has carried out the accreditation process for the Environmental Management System certification simultaneously with the Quality Management System of Core Scientific Services (SCC-PCB) certification, according to the requirements established in the ISO 9001: 2008 standard, for its efforts to provide scientific support services, maintenance of scientific equipment and facilities and customer care services.

These services are designed to offer PCB researchers equipment and facilities to support their research activities, and constitute a reference technology center, consistent with the research lines that are developed and that are preferably linked to biomedicine, biotechnology, nanobioengineering and pharmaceutical chemistry. The implementation of the ISO 9001Quality Management System provides a framework for continuous improvement in the innovation of processes and services for the benefit of all entities based at the PCB.

“With these certifications, the Barcelona Science Park wants to make clear its commitment to continuous improvement of work processes and the optimization and efficient management of available resources. The PCB houses 75 entities that carry out excellence research, and hence the park has to ensure optimal quality of its facilities and equipment. In this sense, both accreditations represent the recognition of the high quality service that the PCB offers its users. All this has been possible thanks to the enduring efforts of the Quality Committee and the active involvement of all the staff at the PCB, who will continue working to achieve certification for the rest of the services that the 8 existing technology platforms provide, both to the companies based at the park and to outside companies”, – said Fernando Albericio, director general of the Barcelona Science Park.
