The European Association of Global Bioethics to organize a symposium on multiculturalism and health

On 16 and 17 March, the European Association of Global Bioethics (), which involves the UB Observatory of Bioethics and Law (), will hold a scientific symposium entitled "Multiculturalism and health". From a bioethical viewpoint, specialists from a range of disciplines will give presentations on the adaptation of the health system to cultural diversity, the independence of patients, and changes in legislation, among other issues.

The scientific programme will kick off on Thursday 16 March with the conference “Racism, still an anthropological problem?”, presented by Charles Susanne, full professor in Human Anthrololopgy and Genetics at the Université Libre de Bruxelles, in the Aula Magna of the UB Faculty of Geography and History. The following day will include several conferences in which participants will present their research on the ethical issues behind sex changes, organ donations from immigrant populations from Pakistan and Morocco, the current situation regarding abortion among foreign adolescents, and Jehovah’s witnesses and blood transfusions.

The European Association of Global Bioethics is a multidisciplinary forum which seeks to develop research and training activities addressing ethical issues that arise from developments in fields of Life Sciences and Technology. The organization of this symposium has also involved the Observatory of Bioethics and the Association of Bioethics and Law, both groups that form part of the UB.
