The IBB and the CIBER-BBN license a research patent to Janus Development

The Institute of Biotechnology and Biomedicine (IBB) of the Autonomous University of Barcelona, and the Networking Centre on Biomedical Research –Bioengineering, Biomaterials and Nanomedicine (CIBER-BBN) have licensed one of their patents in co-ownership to Janus Development, a company located at the Barcelona Science Park. The patent is "The use of inclusion bodies as therapeutic agents", requested by the Institute's Applied Microbiology Research Group, led by doctor Antonio Villaverde. The new technique will enable the precise location of therapeutic proteins within the inside of a cell to be determined, avoiding the generation of a possible immune response.

Janus Development is part of the PCB-Santander Bioincubator and its mission is to add value to biomedical knowledge, acting as an accelerator of projects and offering research centers its ability to invest in their discoveries and manage the first development phase and validation of these projects with a commercial aim. Specifically, in this project Janus’ function will be to manage the development of the technology up until a concept testing stage that enables commercialization or sublicensing to third parties.
