The PCB and the IRB Barcelona offer their support to Chile

Starting today and up until next Friday March 19 several fund collection boxes have been placed in the reception areas of the Barcelona Science Park (at the Helix and Cluster Buildings and R + D + I Towers) in order to raise funds for Chile, with the aim of helping all victims and the Chilean government to cope with serious situation that the country finds itself in after the massive earthquake that occurred last February 27.

This initiative was thought up by a group of Chilean researchers and students who work at the Institute for Research in Biomedicine (IRB Barcelona) and who have requested the support of the IRB Barcelona and the Barcelona Science Park (PCB) to increase voluntary donations in our country with the aim of aiding their fellow countrymen.

Likewise, six researchers from the IRB Barcelona have decided to participate this Sunday in La Marató de Barcelona (the Barcelona Marathon) in order to raise funds for this cause.

The funds collected in the boxes located in the reception areas of the PCB as well as those obtained as a sign of solidarity with the runners of the IRB Barcelona who will be participating in the Marathon will be added to the donations that the Teleton Foundation has forecasted to raise via a televised marathon that will be held at a national level tomorrow Friday starting at 10 p.m. (local time), and in which several nationally and internationally renowned individuals will participate.

Donations will be used for the construction of emergency housing and for the distribution and provision of food and first-need articles in order to help the victims of the earthquake (approximately two million people). The televised marathon is framed within the celebration of a solidarity campaign coordinated by the Government of Chile and by the National Television Association (ANATEL) in collaboration with several organizations such as “A Roof for Chile” and the “Foundation to Overcome Poverty”.
