The PCB extends the Xplore Health program thanks to the support from the Amgen Foundation

Thanks to support from the Amgen Foundation, the PCB has been able to expand the contents of the biotechnology module of the Xplore Health portal and will also develop a new virtual experiment that will be available in English, Spanish, Catalan, French and Polish. The organization has also made the commitment of strengthening its divulgative program offering a series of training workshops for nearly 50 teachers in Catalonia and Galicia. The grant will also serve to facilitate the exchange of good practices among teachers from different European countries using an online tool to improve collaboration.

“As a scientific organization dedicated to serving the patient, we have an important responsibility which is no other than to promote education about science and health, “says George Martin, CEO of Amgen Spain.

In the words of Rosina Malagrida, Technical Director of Dissemination of Science at the Barcelona Science Park and coordinator of the Xplore Health program: “We are witnessing a decline across the whole of Europe in the number of young people interested in pursuing a scientific career. Our program is addressing this challenge and has been designed to bridge the gap between research and education by stimulating debate, inspiring future researchers and promoting scientific literacy. We thank the Amgen Foundation for its vision and continued support. ”

The Health Xplore program, led by the Barcelona Science Park, is an educational portal of biomedical research that provides innovative multimedia contents and activities for young people, schools and science museums over the Internet. The portal is aimed at teachers and students and is organized into thematic modules that revolve around areas related to current research, including drug development, genomics, biotechnology, cancer, malaria and AIDS.

The aim of the Amgen Foundation is to promote scientific education, improve patient access to quality care and strengthen communities in which Amgen staff live and work. Since 1991, the Foundation has made donations worth over 160 million to non-governmental organizations of the United States, Puerto Rico and Europe, as well as to organizations that offer their support teams to help in disasters both nationally and internationally.
