The PCB hosts a new group that researches the effects of exposure to radiation

The Dawnesh Radiation Research Institute, (DRRI), a research group that studies the effects of exposure radiation on cell structures, has recently been incorporated to the Barcelona Science Park. The leader of the group is Dr. M. Nili, an expert in radiological protection.

Its objectives are to develop new repair mechanisms at a molecular level that increase cell resistance to the effects of exposure to radiation –whether it is chronic or episodic-, and to research possible ways to mitigate the damage radiation may cause. This is the case, for example, of cancer patients who undergo radiation therapy or medical personnel and researchers who work with this type of energy and have been accidentally exposed to its effects due to leaks or uncontrolled exposure. The group also studies and measures the amount of radiation that cells absorb in these cases and other high risk situations.

In the long term, the DRRI wishes to promote the development of an interdisciplinary foundation in Spain comprised by professionals who work in the field of health physics, with the aim of facilitating knowledge exchange and scientific collaboration in order to advance in the understanding of cell structures and contribute to the improvement of human health.
